The Europe Challenge

The EBLIDA/ELAN publication “The Green Librarian Handbook: Symphony in Sustainability Major” is more than just a handbook; it is a call to action and an invitation to reimagine what our libraries can be in a time of profound environmental and social change. Libraries are, at their heart, places of learning and individual growth.

In today’s world, learning, knowledge and information should be coupled with responsibility. The climate emergency, the loss of biodiversity, the pressures on our cities and rural areas – these challenges affect us all, and they cannot be ignored. Libraries, with their long tradition of public service and their deep roots in local communities, are uniquely placed to make a difference.

Libraries may not have the loudest voice in global debates, but they have something just as powerful: trust, continuity, and presence in the everyday lives of millions of citizens across Europe.
