OMC Expert Group for Libraries Consultation Guide
This is a quick guide extracting findings, lived experiences, and expertise of all involved in the making of The Europe Challenge and the publication How Libraries Survive Thrive, A Guide for Librarians… and Everyone Else in Europe!, presented to the Open Method of Coordination (OMC) EU Member States’
expert group for Libraries in 2024.
By the summer of 2025, the OMC group should deliver a report that outlines the current challenges and opportunities for public libraries in Europe in fulfilling their various roles.
It is a mere glimpse of what is a huge ongoing effort, with tens of thousands of activities being carried out every minute across 65,000 public libraries and numerous community libraries in Europe. Libraries are truly an incredible resource for democracy in Europe; a wealth of information and knowledge. They are also a pathway to progress, and a socially, environmentally, and digitally fairer Europe. Let’s listen to librarians, who are doing the essential work that is so greatly needed.
